"I'm Proud to be an American...

...where at least I know I'm free!"
LOVE that song.  I sing that song just about everyday.  It's been stuck in my head for the last 4 years.  It randomly appeared one day and has never left since. I break out singing it at odd times in the day. (singing songs all the time isn't that uncommon for me, but this one is always on the play list)
It drives Clay crazy.   :)
I joke that when I'm dead he'll hear that song randomly on the radio and he'll start bawling because I sang it so beautifully to him all the time.

We started our 4th of July with waffles.
Lucy doesn't eat a lot of things but she does love her waffles.  So when the holidays come I like to dye them colors since I know she'll eat them.
So here we have blue waffles (too bad they look kind of green) with whipped topping and raspberry jam deliciousness!

After waffles I sent Clay out to  mow the lawn and I did my best to clean the house and pack for our trip the next day.  I didn't get a lot done with the two trouble makers that live in my house.

You can't not go to the fireworks! So we packed up and brought every cooling thing we could think of to keep the small people comfortable and occupied.
It was incredibly hot outside and we were in the brushy area because that's where you go when you don't want to camp at the river for most the day.
BUBBLES!

Check out Lucy's star, done by yours truly.  Oh pinterest and all your crazy ideas.

Our little camp spot.  This sportsbrella is a fabulous find that we purchased like 3 years ago and we just now started using it this year. We should have been using it a long time ago.

Baby Zoey is simply beat in all this heat.  She took a nap and she was golden after that, thank goodness!

A fan to keep her cool.  Don't worry no fingers were chopped off.
It started getting dark out so we broke out the neon lights and we were getting stoked for the firework show ahead of us.  Little Lucy was very excited to see these fireworks everyone was talking about.

As were handsome man and I.  Ready to get the show started.

The show was scheduled to start at 10-10:30 but was delayed til 11.
Sad story actually.  Some young men were swimming in the river and one never resurfaced. They delayed the fireworks to search for the body, which they did find.  It was very sad and I kept hoping that by some miracle he had made it out alive and just needed to get in contact with his friends, but that's not how that story ended. Prayers for his family.

So the fireworks started around 11 and Zoey was asleep well before that.  Lucy started to watch them and then drifted off to la la Lucy land.  Poor kid spent all that time in the heat waiting and she barely saw them.
We were home and in bed by 1 am, which did delay our take off for our trip the next day, but more on that later.
I hope you had a marvelous Independence Day!
