It looks better on a postcard.

That was my favorite line in high school.  I went to girl's camp just like any LDS girl between the ages of 12-18 and they forced me to hike Tablerock, TWICE!  This really upset me because I was a girly girl and so not in shape for a freakin long hike.  Especially when it's covered in snow-different story.
So when we were on that hike and someone said something along the lines of "Oooh that's pretty"  I would reply back with.... "It would look better on a postcard."  Meaning I really have no intentions of enjoying myself because you crazy leaders forced me to be up here.  Ahhh the teenage years, neat huh?

So once upon a time I talked Clayton into going on a nature hike with me.  We'd only been married 2 years so we were still newlyweds, ya know infatuated with each other.  Hiking really isn't his thing and it's not like I'm amazing at it or absolutely love it by any means.  I like casual spontaneous hikes.  Anyway I convinced him to go and we drove up to Palisades, about an hour away.  We started on a gorgeous hike, as you can tell.
It had rained earlier so everything was muddy but we got over it.

Look see we were having such a marvelous time we took selfies!

But then the clouds started to rumble at us and look heavy with rain.  So we turned around and headed to the car.  I actually don't mind the rain on a walk.  I think it's kinda fun.
Clay was less than thrilled.

And what made matters worse is that we had my dog (Wort, may he RIP) with me and he was just as anxious to get out of the rain.  So when we opened the car door to place towels down for him to sit on he bypassed that and got our car all muddy.
Soooo we haven't been on a hike since, it was a sore subject.

5 Years later and I convince Clay to give it another whirl.  I asked my boss for a short, low incline hike that my kids could handle and that wasn't too far away.
We drove to Warm Springs.  Not nearly as pretty as Palisades but their is a railroad tunnel at the end that is pretty neat.

O a hiking we will go!

And if we make the midget walk we can wear her out, plus, plus!

She wore out quick, as expected but did not like this silly back pack idea.  She's a picky pants.

Pretty, clear water.  We saw a lot of people floating and we even splashed around at the end of our hike.  Warm springs is exaggerating, but on a wicked hot day it felt amazing.
And we would so love to go back and camp and float there. Just need to quit our jobs first. ;)  "Ain't nobody got time for that!"

It was a risk taking Bella but as you can tell the skies were clear.  So clear in fact it was in the high 80's/90, toasty.  No chance of rain here.

Don't look now but we picked nature.  The flowers are what kept the girls happy.
And it's not summer unless you have some twizzlers!  The candy helped their attitude as well. :)

And whenever we spotted shade we took the opportunity to take a break and drink a ton.  Apparently it's not a shaded area.

And when you say "Zoey look at me!"  She takes it as "Zoey come here and trample me!"  :)

Selfie!  See we had fun!
We made it about a mile and a half before we opted to turn around.  We were low on water, Lucy was complaining, Zoey didn't want to walk or sit in the back pack, (No, if you could just hold her with the strength of your arms she would have been totally fine.) I was dragging the dog, (Yes even the dog was pathetic.  Hindsight though I think she stepped on something because she limped for a couple days after this trip.  Pretty sure she was faking it so we don't make her do that again. :)   and Clay was having allergy attacks.

So we turned around, half way people, half way!  So close to my train tunnel exploration!

See I pooped the dog out too, she just sat down in the middle of the trail.  Sheesh!  I need a hiking buddy.

Lucy fell down about half a billion times so at one point I made her walk on the opposite side of the trail.  The trail wasn't right on the edge but with her clumsiness I didn't trust her to be  two feet from the edge. I have some more hiking training to do with her.

Clay darted off with Zoey while I stayed back with the two slow pokes.  And then the campground guy drove past us and said that someone had spotted a bear.  We never saw it, Lucy's wailing probably scared the poor thing away. She scares me too Smokey, she scares me too.
And then on our drive home Clay ended up pulling over and had me drive the rest of the way because his eyes were super allergic to something, nature ya know.
Zoey:  Ummm this would be a lot more fun if you would just carry me, not in this dorky back pack and if I could have about 12 more pieces of licorice.

Lucy: My knees hurt! (from falling 1/2 a billion times)  My feet hurt!  My legs hurt!

Clay: Tiffany I can't see, my eyes burn.  It's hot.  This back pack is digging into my shoulders.  Lucy get up you're going to be fine.  Zoey sit down. No Tiffany we're done, we're going back.

Tiffany:  I think we're almost there, let's just go a little further.  Lucy for the love look where you're going!  Zoey sit down, here take some licorice.  Bella  pick up the pace!  Please Clay just a little further.

Bella: When is my other family going to pick me up?  These freaks are dragging me out into the mountains to kill me.  Do they not see the bear?  I'm faking a limp so they turn around.

Soooo maybe in 5 years I can talk him into another hike?

Speaking of smokey....
Clay and I had just put the kids to bed and we hear a couple sirens.  I didn't think much about it but then I kept hearing them.  And I thought "hmm I wonder if it's a fire?"  I also wondered if their was some crazy car chase going on in our neighborhood.  It sounds stupid but lately their have been a lot of car break ins here soooo... my mind ran with it. :)
I jumped on my neighborhood's Facebook page real quick to see if anything was posted.  Yep a fire.
We run outside and this is what we see.
YIKES!!!
Well I'm not going to bed.

We just stood in our backyard for like an hour watching it.  We swore that all the houses on the foothills were engulfed in flames.
Turns out not a single house was touched, I heard that it came within 100 yds of a house tho, and that would scare the pants off of me.
Gooo I was paranoid it was going to come down the hill, it didn't.  It just went sideways and the smoke even blew away from our house.  They had it contained by 4 am the next morning.
And now when I drive by and see the black seared sage brush I think, huh that wasn't that close to my house at all.
Thank goodness it wasn't and that no one was hurt and the only thing up there is dirt and sage brush!
