Through the eyes of a child

Every night as I'm laying in bed beginning to doze off into dream land I blog in my mind.  I'm sure it's my minds way of telling me to get on here. I'm months behind on a very busy 6 months and so it's become overwhelming.  And when their is a surplus of photos it just makes it more difficult.  Who wants to fish through all of that?
My mind wandered to my grandparents house last night tho so I'll take it as a sign.

I was  reminded of my Dad's parent's house.  My Dad is #9 of 10 children.  My Grandma I'm sure has already been sainted, not just from having to go through child birth 10 times but also because she raised my Father.  (Let's be honest I've got some active aunts too, I'm thinking of you Karma and Colleen :)

My Grandparents names are Allen and Lula, which can be sung to the tune of "Alleluia" If you were to look up the song Press Forward, Saints for example in the chorus
Alleluia
Allen and Lula
Alleluia

They lived in Rigby, ID a wee little country town.  They lived in the country on a "farm" of sorts.  When I visited I was sorely disappointed.  BECAUSE they had a barn that they were using all wrong.  Rarely did I visit their barn because it was dark, creepy and filled with big old tools.  BORING!

The correct way to use a barn as follows:

One cow that looks like this
with her baby of course.  (My Dad would disagree and say that it was a black Angus, but he's not designing this fantasy.)

Obviously a horse or 12.
A donkey named Donquixote because that just makes sense.
(If you haven't watched this Wishbone episode then you're welcome for introducing it to you now.)

A dog, duh
A couple of pigs, ones name is Wilbur (absolutely no spiders, I would have squished you Charlotte and by I, I mean someone other than myself would have squished because EWWW!)
Kittens of course (my grandparents did have those and I loved on them!)
Ducks because they're always laughing at their own jokes, they're hilarious.
That should be sufficient.

Their house was yellow brick and I can still remember the sound of the screen door.  In their living room if I remember correctly they had shag carpet, I want to say it was orange, rust.  My Grandma's organ was in there, I'm told she was an amazing piano and organ player I don't remember it but I don't doubt that she was.

She made a car blanket, you know with roads and a fire station on it that you could drive your hot wheels on, I loved that car blanket, rug.

I believe their was the shortest most tightly woven carpet in the kitchen that had squares with flowers in it?  Everyone remembers her for her bread, I remember her apple pie.

My Grandpa worked in a mine and their was an accident causing his thumb (right hand I think) to be permanently stuck in hitch hiker mode.  To a child that was cool.

Their was a yellow and brown faded swing set outside that I would play on until I became bored and wandered into the trees.  The swing would squeak with every sway.Image result for yellow and brown 1950s swingset
It looked similar to this, those are just random children from google.  The chair swing was the most desired part, tis the wagon of course.  Yaw horsey yaw!

They had apple trees outside.  (I've learned that what looks like thousands to a child could actually be closer to ten when you're an adult.  My eyes were huge back then so my facts may be skewed but I'd rather remember it this way.)  So in my mind it was an apple orchard of at least 100 trees.  I would run between the trees thinking up my next adventure with my dog in tow, whichever one that was at the time. Rascal, Lady or Shadow.

With all that playing a girl was bound to become hungry, easy fix, just sneak into their garden and pick some raspberries.  Between me and the other hundreds of grandchildren I'll bet my Grandparents never had fresh raspberries.

I was thinking about this last night how I could entertain myself for hours out there or at my own house for that matter.  I spent most of my time outdoors.  Of course I had my days where I played Mario all day because Mario is just awesome.  My Mom was sick a lot when I was young and I'm sure I harassed her more than I remember, naw I was the perfect child.  It made me think of my own girls tho and how if  I need a guaranteed hour of quiet I can stick them in front of the TV and/or tablet.  What have I done?!  Go outside and discover Nermo the worm.  Pretend that your dog is White Fang and you must build it's trust.  Ride your bike through the trees pretending that you're a pioneer on your way to the West!  Avoid the cholera tho.

How do you even end a post like this?  A post that is probably of no importance to others but is a walk down memory lane for me.  I'll start by closing this and teaching my children where to start with their imaginations and see where theirs takes them.
