Aug. 2016

Oh the joy that summer brings me!  Warm weather, delicious food, sandals, long evenings with beautiful sunsets, gardening, this list could go on for days.
Aug. 15th Clay and I went to baby's ultrasound to see how she's growing and to find out boy or girl.
She looked great, cute button nose, toes and healthy heart beat, so grateful!
Clay and I knew as soon as the tech turned the wand in that area we were having another girl.  Clay is one lucky Dad, we'll have to work on our patience though.  Honestly though those girls have him wrapped around his finger. After the ultrasound we went and had our will written up, super exciting.
Later that night we had the girls spray silly string to reveal they were getting another sister.
Lucy really wanted a brother and was a little disappointed but it quickly wore off.

Lucy had her drain (bubble) removed on the 19th.  That was a joyous day for all of us but somewhat bittersweet.  Her surgery was scheduled for Sept. 23rd, so I had a little over a month to panic about that infection returning. And if so the drain would be placed again and we would wait another 6 weeks for healing.  Placing that drain was traumatic for all of us, Lucy doesn't remember it because the meds she was given but she was so terrified, awake and we were not allowed to be with her while it was placed. :(

I was so glad that I had planted in late May/early June.  I had still felt miserable from pregnancy so I pretty much threw seeds in the ground and hoped for the best.
I've learned that I really just like to watch things grow, I don't quite enjoy harvest though-it's a ton of work and work that comes on suddenly, whether you're ready for it or not.
By the end of the season I told Clay next year I only want to plant flowers.
He thinks that's a waste of space and money, obviously he doesn't appreciate their beauty.
I've already started listing the vegetables I'm going to grow tho, I'm crazy.

Boxes contain: Lavender, sunflowers, kale, spinach, pansies, carrots, onions (my onions didn't turn out, totally bummed), peas, cucumbers, dill, random flowers, beets.

 Flowers, jalapenos and tomatoes.

This is where we placed our pool the last two years and opted to sell at the end of last year because we got tired of maintaining it.  Especially because we never got to play in it, summers are ridiculously busy, but fun!

So I planted pumpkins, yellow squash and zucchini.

I'm so proud of my garden!  Look at those cute baby pumpkins, we harvested 13, not too shabby!

So grateful for our garden as well.  At the end of July my boss broke his arm as I've mentioned before.  This cut my work hours back considerably and it was around the time of Lucy's ruptured appendix.  Money was tight and work hours were few, we survived off of our harvest and food storage, and the money we had been saving for my maternity leave.
We're pretty tired of eating squash and zucchini tho....

My picture isn't great but that's some of the smoke from the Henry Creek fire.
Fires start on the hill behind our house every year and they're typically contained within the night or next day.  But the next day was a typical Idaho day, windy which just fueled the fire.
The direction the wind blew was an answer to prayers because it blew it away from the close neighborhoods.  Some farmers weren't as lucky tho, it burned over 52,000 acres and went on the rest of the week, if I remember right.

So my daughter is so much like me it's ridiculous.  She found this feather and named it Featherbon.
We must name everything, my ipads name is Frank, in case you were wondering.

Clay and I spent 6 hours canning 24 peach pie fillings, we're kind of awesome.
We feet were rather swollen after that endeavor tho.

Lucy started 1st grade!
Surprisingly she woke up happy and was excited but came home very sad and overwhelmed.  We spent the rest of that week trying to reassure her.  She's my nervous little girl and a new teacher and that burst appendix weigh on her very heavily.

Zoey (and Bella) were bored out of their minds without their buddy and eagerly awaited her arrival home.

The bus should come here.

 Waiting, waiting...

She's finally home!!!

With Lucy at school all day now Zoey is my buddy and goes with me everywhere.
She's an easy going, happy, little blonde.
Sonic had a corn dog sale one day, so we went and got ourselves some corn dogs and ate in the car like barbarians. :)
